Kvøða løgmans undir minningarhaldinum:
Your excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,
It is an honour for me to be here representing the people of the Faroe Islands.
Today we have come together to celebrate the liberation of Denmark now 70 years ago and remember the seafarers of Denmark and the Faroes that lost their often young lives in the fight against Nazism. This so we today can live life the only way we know it: in a democracy.
These were ordinary people: our parents, grandparents and great grandparents. Yet they carried out exceptional deeds and ultimately paid the highest price leaving their families behind.
They are proof that we are all capable of exceptional determination and sacrifice to the great and the good of our society.
May we make our forefathers proud by continuing to promote peace and democracy for our children and grandchildren the way they did for us!
